Castaways Beach Resort is a top spot to stay in Mission Beach as it stretches along the beachfront and all rooms at the resort have balconies overlooking the ocean.
Mission Beach is a favourite getaway for people in Cairns and Townsville who want to escape the hustle and bustle. Its charm lies in the fact that its a quiet little coastal town with a phenomenal beach, no major developments and a relaxed and friendly vibe.
If you’re after some peace and quiet and long walks along palm-tree lined beaches, Mission Beach is the place to go.
resort charm
Built along the beach, Castaways Beach Resort really makes you feel like you are in the tropics….which of course you are!
Each room looks out over palm trees and onto the most beautiful beach, its everything you imagine tropical North Queensland to be.
There is a spacious green lawn area with deck chairs facing the ocean and a long swimming pool hugging one side of the resort (the beach side).
When the sun is out, its the most relaxing place to chill, laying on a deck chair watching the ocean or reading a book.
When its raining, its cool watching the storm over the beach and the palm trees swaying in the wind as the sky becomes dark and broody.
We watched a storm from our room, safe from the rain but still fascinated by the weather lashing at the beach.
And if you are stuck indoors like we were (which often happens during wet season), the rooms all have televisions and there is plenty of space to play board games.
rooms
Our room was a two bedroom apartment on the second floor, accessed via a lift or stairs.
The front door opened onto a large room containing the kitchenette, dining and lounge room with sliding doors opening onto a private balcony.
Off this was the bathroom, main bedroom overlooking the beach and the second bedroom with single beds.
The décor throughout was simple and classic with white bedding and large tropical paintings on the walls.
It felt fresh and clean throughout and the bathroom came with complimentary toiletries.
The kitchenette had a full size fridge and a kettle, toaster and frypan for cooking in the apartment. It’s perfect if you’re staying here a few days or a week on holidays.
eating
There is a restaurant and bar at the resort, which looks out onto the pool and through to the beach.
Since we had the kids with us and it was raining on the evening we stayed here, we decided to go for fish and chips (thank you to Castaways for providing us with some images with blue skies!).
There are a couple of places nearby that do fish and chips but one thing to be aware of is that in low season many shops and restaurants close early.
Luckily we made it before they closed.
If you’re staying at Castaways Mission Beach you can enjoy a continental breakfast in the resort restaurant each morning with sweet pastries, ham and cheese croissants, cereal, toast, fruit platter and the usual tea, coffee and juices.
There are also a few cafes in town that serve breakfast and good coffee too.
things to do
Mission Beach is a small beachside town with a few boutique shops and cafes, but that’s it, which is why it’s such an appealing place to stay.
But if you are looking for something to do there are a few attractions and things to do in the surrounding area as well as reef and kayaking trips.
